End of the Road a one hour documentary In the far south of Chile, set among looming glaciers and rambling mountains, is a small and remote town on the brink of change. Waiting years to be connected to the north by way of the nation's fabled roadway, the isolated town of Villa O'Higgins is abuzz with plans, hopes, expectations and dreams. Founded in 1966, Villa O'Higgins is little more than an outpost. Yet as the road known as the Carretera Austral penetrates the pristine wilderness of Patagonia, landscapes and lives are being radically changed...for the better, for the worse and for the future. A story that unfolds over a period of five years, this one hour documentary explores the complicated issues of development, globalization, tradition and change and looks at how even the smallest of communities in the most far off of places are affected. Suddenly introduced to the 21st century by way of a road, the pioneers of the south are at a unique, complex and critical time in their history. END OF THE ROAD is a work-in-progress and we are currently seeking support from foundations and individuals for post production expenses. The Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco is acting as our Fiscal Sponsor for this project and all contributions are tax-deductible. If you would like to contribute, please visit http://www.bavc.org/services/sponsorship/support.htm or contact us at endoftheroad@boondocs.com. |
